This Sunday is Holy Humor or Bright Sunday. This celebration is nearly 2000 years old in the Eastern Orthodox tradition. It is a welcome relief after Holy Week and an additional celebration of Jesus’ resurrection! It’s the time when we say to Satan, the jokes on you. You didn’t win. Our Savior is risen and is alive today! Cal Samra, the creator of The Joyful Noiseletter (which may be found online) has spent over 30 years touting the belief that Christians are filled with joy because of Easter. And as believers in the resurrected Jesus Christ we have much to be joyful about. So this Sunday we will rediscover rather comical stories in the Bible. We will share a few jokes, change the lyrics to a few familiar hymns and resurrect our sense of humor. Let’s remember the times when we have been challenged by something, as we are today, and how because of our faith were able to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Rejoice my friends.
